Why CPM matters

CPM is what Meta charges you to show your ad, but it is only half the story. A higher CPM can still be worth it if the audience clicks and buys more often. Always read CPM together with CTR and cost per result.

  • Broad audiences often have lower CPMs than narrow interest stacks
  • Reels and Stories placements can price differently from Feed
  • CPMs usually rise during big shopping events
  • Engaging creative can lower effective costs because Meta rewards relevance

Frequently asked questions

What does CPM stand for?

Cost per mille, which means cost per thousand impressions.

Is a lower CPM always better?

No. Cheap impressions to people who never buy are expensive in the end. Judge CPM alongside conversion results.

Why did my CPM suddenly increase?

Common causes are seasonal competition, audience fatigue, a smaller audience or a drop in creative engagement.

How do I lower CPM?

Test broader targeting, more placements and fresher creative. Creatives that people watch and engage with tend to be delivered more efficiently.

Does Meta show CPM in Ads Manager?

Yes, CPM is a standard column in Ads Manager under performance metrics.
