You can use me as inspiration… but that doesn’t mean you should copy everything I do. If you want to deadlift 180kg like me, you don’t walk into the gym, put 180kg on the bar and hope for the best. That probably isn’t going to end well 😂 I’ve spent 14 years building the strength and experience I have today. You may only be two or three years into your journey, so comparing the weight on our bars without recognising the different stages we’re at won’t help you. But let’s look at the behaviours and habits that helped me get there and what you could learn from them: → I have one session each week focused on progressing my deadlift. → I follow a structured strength wave instead of trying to lift as heavily as possible every week. → I focus on progressive overload and aim to create measurable progress over time. → I carefully manage my workout structure across a week to ensure my lower body recovery is optimal. → When strength is my main goal, I’m usually not trying to aggressively diet at the same time. You might also see me pre-exhaust my hamstrings and glutes before deadlifting. The lesson isn’t simply, “Katie does this, so I should too.” The lesson is to ask why I’m doing it, what purpose it serves and whether the principle could help your own training. Don’t copy my exact workouts, calories or the number on my bar. Study the structure. Study the habits. Study the behaviours. Study the decisions that happen before the result. So yes I disagree, I think you should compare yourself to people who are where you want to be, but instead of focusing on the gap, ask yourself… how can I use this to help me on my journey? Would love to know in the comments if you have struggled with comparison spirals on your before, and tips you have used to overcome it?
